The Carl Sandburg College baseball came up on the short end of a pair of walk-off losses in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader Tuesday at Black Hawk.

Locked up in a pitchers’ duel through six innings, Black Hawk scored the game’s lone run as Drew Davis led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run.
Sandburg Standout
Chargers starter Silas Israel (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) turned in a spectacular start, allowing just one run on three hits over six-plus innings. Israel struck out five and issued only one walk while throwing just 70 pitches (49 strikes).

A four-run fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Abe Collins (Morton, Ill./Morton), put the Chargers (12-21, 6-6) ahead 8-5. The Braves cut the Chargers’ lead to 8-7 with a pair of runs in the sixth and won it with two more in the ninth. An error on a groundball to first with the bases loaded brought home the tying and winning runs.

Ben Higgins (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) reached base three times for the Chargers, going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles, a walk and a run scored.
